Flight Instruction

Dakota Aviation offers flight instruction in a Part 61 environment offering you the flexibility that you need to succeed in this new endeavor. Dakota Aviation provides courses in Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Rating, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII), Multiengine, and Multiengine Instructor (MEI) at the Canton Airport (7G9), which is a short drive from the Sioux Falls metro area. Dakota Aviation is planning to add courses in tailwheel and aerobatics in the future.

Private Pilot

The private pilot course at Dakota Aviation is designed to teach you the fundamentals of flying an aircraft in a safe manner, in a VFR (visual flight rules) environment. You will become proficient in slow flight, stalls, steep turns, ground reference maneuvers, take offs, landings, operating the radios, cross country flight planning, go arounds (balked landings), and more.

Instrument Rating

The instrument rating at Dakota Aviation is designed to give you the necessary skills needed to operate in the IFR (instrument flight rules) environment. You will become proficient in operating the aircraft solely by reference to your instruments inside the cockpit, interpreting FAA Charts, cross country flight planning, operating the radios in the IFR environment, shooting approaches down to minimums, and more.

Commercial Rating + CFI / CFII

The commercial flight rating at Dakota Aviation is designed to help you become the "Master of your Aircraft". You will become proficient in operating the aircraft in a professional environment, using advanced maneuvers, aerodynamics, weather management, professionalism, and more.

The CFI and CFII ratings will provide instruction in teaching methods, communication techniques, and becoming an effective teacher.

Multi Engine / Multi Instructor Ratings

The multiengine rating at Dakota Aviation is designed to give you the skills necessary to safely operate a light twin engine aircraft. You will become proficient in single engine operations, aerodynamics of a twin engine airplane, aerodynamics of a single engine operations, weight and balance, and more.

The multiengine instructor course teaches you how to effectively teach a multiengine student.
